For the development and advancement of civilization and culture, the establishment of rule of law is a must. It is the Police, which enforces the law and order in the society and thus help protect the pace of development. The Police Head Quarters was established in the year 1965. It was then headed by an Inspector General of Police. The first Inspector General of Police was Sri R.N. Sheopoory, IPS from 1965 to 1967 . On 2nd February 1987, Sri H.C. Jatav, IPS joined as the first Director General of Police, Tripura. The State is divided into 8 Districts comprising 25 Police sub-divisions, 78 Police Stations and 35 Police Out Posts.
Shri Rajiv Singh, IPS is an officer of 1993 batch of Indian Police Service and allotted to Tripura Cadre. He holds Master Degree in History from Hindu College (Delhi University). He also has done Master Degree in Police Management from Osmania University (Hyderabad). He was awarded Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2009 and President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2016. He was also awarded United Nation Peace Keeping Medal in the year 2001 and Antrik Suraksha Seva Medal in 2002.
After basic training at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy , Hyderabad, as IPS Probationer Shri Singh has served as ASP (South) from December, 1994 to December, 1995, SDPO, Dharmanagar from January, 1996 to January,1998, Addl. SP(Urban) West District from January,1998 to June, 1998, SP, West District from June, 1998 to April,2000, AIG (HQr) from June, 2001 to February, 2003, SP, North District from February, 2003 to April, 2003, AIG (HQr) from April, 2003 to August, 2003, DIG (HQr), PHQ, Agartala from October, 2010 to March, 2011, IGP (Training), Tripura with Addl. Charge of JCG (HG) from April,2011 April,2012 and IGP (L/O), Tripura from April, 2012 to August, 2013.
He had gone on deputation to UN Peace Keeping Mission, Kosovo w.e.f. 20-04-2000 for one year.
He had two tenures of Central deputation in CBI from August, 2003 to August, 2010 and from August, 2013 to May, 2018 where he served in various capacities and handled a number of important and sensitive assignments.
On repatriation from Central deputation, he has been posted as Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order), Tripura since August, 2018.
Shri Puneet Rastogi belongs to the 1995 batch of IPS and is borne on Tripura Cadre. He has done BSc in Statistics and MBA from Lucknow University. He has served in Tripura in various capacities as ASP (South), SDPO(Kanchanpur), Addl.SP(Urban), SP(West I/C), SP(North), SP(South) and SP(SB).He was awarded DGP’s commendation Disc in the year 2000. After that he proceeded on Central Deputation to Serious Fraud Investigation for five years with effect from 25.10.2004 to 31.12.2009. After completion of 5 years of Central Deputation he reported back to the Cadre and was posted on promotion as DIGP(PHQ) on 04.01.2010. Thereafter he also served as DIG(N/R), DIG(CID) Addl. Charge, DIG(S/R) Addl. Charge, DIG(S/R) Regular Charge, DIG(CID) Addl. Charge, IG(Int) and IGP(L/O) Addl. Charge. He received President’s Medal for Meritorious Service in the year 2011. In 2014 he proceeded on Central Deputation to ITBP. He served in ITBP as DIG in Eastern Frontier and was posted at Lucknow. He was promoted as Inspector General in ITBP in September 2015 and was posted as IG Eastern Frontier. During his stint in ITBP he received DGP’s commendation Disc thrice. His Frontier was also awarded as the best Frontier for carrying out maximum innovations in operational and administrative matters in the year 2018. After successful completion of tenure in ITBP he again joined back in the cadre and was posted as IGP(Crime Branch).During Loksabha Election 2019 he held the charge of IGP(L/O) with effect from 17.04.2019 to 29.05.2019 with additional charge of IGP (Crime Branch). Presently he is posted as IGP(Crime Branch) from 30.05.2019. On 01-01-2020 he is promoted as ADGP (Crime Branch) Tripura.
Shri Goduguluri Srinivasa Rao belongs to the 1999 batch of the Indian Police Service and is borne on the Tripura Cadre. He has done his B.Tech in Computer Engineering from Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, Andhra University, Vishakapatnam.
He has served in Tripura in various capacities as SDPO Amarpur, Addl S.P.(Rural) West Tripura District, Commandant 5th Bn. Tripura State Rifles, SP North Tripura District, SP West Tripura District, AIG (Operations) PHQ, SP South Tripura District and SP (Special Branch). He has conducted large number of successful Counter Insurgency operations during this period. He was awarded Antrik Suraksha Seva Medal, Police Special Duty Medal and the DGP’s Commendation Disc.
He has joined the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy on Central deputation in July 2010 and worked as Assistant Director (Administration), Assistant Director (Indoor Studies) and on promotion as Deputy Director (Indoor Studies), Deputy Director (Works), Deputy Director (Basic Course) and Controller of Examinations. He is closely involved in training of IPS Probationers during this period. While in the Academy, he was awarded the Director’s Commendation Disk & Insignia twice on 30.10.2013 and 28.10.2015. In recognition of his services, the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service was awarded on the occasion of Republic Day – 2015.
After serving the SVPNPA for 6 ½ years he has joined back the Cadre and is posted on promotion as IGP (TSR & Training) w.e.f.28.02.2017.
Shri Sudipta Das is an IPS officer of the 2012 batch, borne on Tripura cadre. He holds a BE (Information Technology) from Jadavpur University, and a PGDM from IIM Bangalore. Prior to joining police, he worked for 4½ years as a banker in ICICI Bank UK PLC, London. He has previously served as SDPO Kailashahar, Addl. SP (Rural) West District, SP Sepahijala District, Commandant 7th BN TSR, and SP Dhalai District. He had represented Tripura’s security concerns in international Bangladesh-India DC-DM Joint Border Conferences in May 2017 in Comilla, Bangladesh, and again in May 2019 in Agartala, India.
Shri Sudipta Das was awarded the Police (Special Duty) Medal (Tripura bar) in 2015, the President’s Secretariat instituted Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak in 2018, the MHA instituted Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak for North-East Region in 2019, and the Tripura DGP’s Commendation Disc in 2015. He won the First Prize in the prestigious Prime Minister’s Silver Cup Essay Competition for the years 2014, 2015 and 2019. His essay titled “Emergence of Social Media: Challenges and Opportunities for the Law Enforcement Agencies” was published in the June 2016 edition of the SVP National Police Academy Journal.
